Scheduling an Appointment

Complimentary Consultation

Complimentary consultations are provided to parents to determine the need for psycho-educational testing and/or therapy services. If you are unsure if your child would benefit from testing or therapy, please contact Sprouting Minds to set up a complimentary phone consultation.

Scheduling Your Child’s Appointment

Testing sessions are typically scheduled in the morning when children tend to be most alert and attentive; however, afternoon sessions are available for those who perform better later in the day. Testing sessions range from three to seven hours depending on your child’s age and the type of assessment being conducted. Assessments over three hours are typically divided into two sessions.

Most assessment forms are electronic and will be emailed after an appointment is scheduled. If you prefer paper copies of forms, please let us know, and we will be happy to mail them to you.

Talking with Your Child about the Testing Process

It is important that your child be informed of the testing process in order to alleviate any fears that may be associated with performance anxiety. In speaking with your child about what to expect, explain in age-appropriate terms that they will be completing a variety of tasks that will help their teachers understand how they learn best. A simple conversation about how every person has strengths and weaknesses regarding their learning style can be helpful in putting your child at ease. Your child should understand that the purpose of the testing is to create a plan that will help alleviate school frustrations and make learning less challenging.

Testing Day

Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a nutritious meal before coming in for their appointment. This will maximize their ability to focus and work attentively. Your child is welcome to bring a snack and drink with them as short breaks will be offered and provided as needed. Also, please note that you are not expected to stay during your child’s testing session.
